Medical Services
Part of our commitment includes providing comprehensive gender-affirming care tailored for UConn’s trans, non-binary, and gender expansive students. Some of our gender-affirming services include:
- Exploration of gender-affirming care options suited to the individual’s needs
- Administration and monitoring of gender-affirming hormone therapy
- Patient-centered chest and pelvic exams
- Acne management
- Contraceptive Counseling
- Referrals to trusted local medical providers that provide gender affirming surgeries (i.e. gender-affirming top/genital/voice surgery, facial masculinization or feminization surgeries)
- Coordinated care with SHaW Mental Health therapists who can provide gender affirmation support
Gender Affirmation Support
Student Health and Wellness therapists are open and affirming to students who wish to address issues related to sexuality, gender expression, and gender identity. For students seeking assistance during their gender transition process, SHaW therapists can provide both therapeutic support as well as letters for gender-related medical interventions as indicated in the course of therapy.
