Patients’ Rights and Responsibilities
As stated as the first tenet of our Patients’ Rights and Responsibilities: We believe you have a right to be treated with respect, consideration and dignity, as well as be free from all forms of abuse and harassment on the basis of any race, color, ethnicity, religious creed, age, sex, marital status, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, genetic information, physical or mental disability (including learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and past or present history of mental illness), veteran’s status, prior conviction of a crime, gender identity or expression, or membership in any other protected classes.
Health Care Representative
A patient has the right to make decisions about the health care they receive. A patient also may designate a health care representative to make health decisions on their behalf if they are unable to do so for themselves. The health care representative may be a parent, a domestic partner or anybody else that understands the patient’s health care wishes.
Patients can find information on Connecticut’s advanced directive laws on Connecticut’s Official State Website. Patients holding a properly executed advanced directive may request that it be included in their Student Health and Wellness medical record. In the event of an emergency, Student Health and Wellness will honor the patient’s wishes by conveying those directives to the provider delivering emergency care.

Whether or not you’re sexually active, exploring your options, or simply curious, this fair is designed to help you feel informed, confident, and supported in making decisions now and in the future!
Holistic Huskies` Mindfulness Fact! Fact #3: Mindfulness doesn’t have to be time-consuming! Activities can be as short as a 2-min breathing exercise or as long as a full body scan.
Join the Holistic Huskies in the Homer Babbidge Library from 12-2pm to learn mindfulness basics, practice breathing and grounding exercises, and take time to reset in a supportive, nonjudgmental space. Open to all experience levels—come pause, recharge, and find what works for you. Find selections from the UConn Library’s wellness collection or ask a librarian for help finding more resources to take with you.
Edibles hit differently. Start low, go slow, and stay informed. Remember that edibles can take longer to feel and last longer than other forms, so pacing yourself is key. Reach out to SHaW for more info and resources.
Join the Health Equity Advocacy Leaders for an interactive session on campus challenges, access, and how we can create a more inclusive community together.
In honor of the upcoming CT Health Equity Week (April 6th – 10th, 2026), UConn Student Health and Wellness is curating a gallery that moves beyond statistics. In 2022, Connecticut made history by codifying Health Equity Week into state law (C.G.S. § 10-29a). This wasn`t just a gesture; it was a mandate to every citizen to help dismantle the systemic barriers that keep our neighbors from living their healthiest lives. We are looking for student artists! Help us visualize what it means (and what it feels like) to strive for a world where everyone has a fair shot at being healthy. Use your talent to educate the campus community on vital social issues. We want to see your interpretation of: -Barriers to Care: What does the "invisible wall" of healthcare look like? -Community Healing: How do neighborhoods care for one another outside of hospital walls? -The Future of Justice: What does a perfectly equitable healthcare system look like in your wildest dreams? We are accepting a wide range of mediums. Whether you’re a digital illustrator, a sculptor, or a poet, your voice belongs here. Please see the slides above for types of submissions allowed and the process of how to submit! Deadline for submissions is April 8th. Please help us showcase your work!
